Flooring Options for Wet Areas

No matter how particular we are, some spaces are often moist or even wet. Planning flooring for such spaces is often a challenge. While some flooring offers ultimate water resistance, some are even 100 percent waterproof. If the subfloor has any leakage, make sure to repair them on first hand before planning a flooring on it. Our experts have a little guide for you to choose the perfect flooring option for wet floors, be it your kitchen, bathroom, laundry area, or basement.

  • Hybrid Flooring – Hybrid floors are considered to be 100% waterproof, it is an innovative type of flooring with the best features of both laminate and vinyl flooring. Hybrid flooring is highly recommended for kitchen floors and suitable for laundry areas with some extra care, whereas Hybrid flooring can be used for bathroom floors but not usually recommended for shower flooring. They come in a wide range of designs and styles.
  • Vinyl Tile – Vinyl tiles are 100 per cent waterproof flooring solution and a good choice for wet areas like bathrooms, wash areas, and kitchens. Vinyl floors may have a few seams while tile installation that allow water to seep down into subfloors. Vinyl floors are more flexible than hybrid flooring, while being durable and easy to maintain.
  • Luxury Vinyl – Including the core, the entire layer of Luxury Vinyl flooring is completely waterproof, making it a much better flooring than any other. As its name suggests, LV flooring gives your space a luxuriously striking appearance.
  • Sheet Vinyl – With very few seams that allow water to penetrate, Vinyl sheets are 100 percent waterproof. Vinyl sheets are great options for bathrooms (or other wet areas) when laid carefully. Vinyl sheets are extremely durable, stain-resistant and waterproof. The foam backing in Vinyl sheets gives a softer feel than tiles or timber.

Acceptable Flooring for Wet Areas

Few flooring options not made of 100 percent waterproof material but can be considered acceptable for covering wet areas are Engineered wood with its water-resistant properties, Laminate flooring acceptable for a few splash and spills and Bamboo flooring is also water-resistant but not waterproof.
